Life Span: Over 60 years
Population Count: 500-1000
Informational Paragraph:
The Northern Right Whale lives in the Atlantic Ocean. There are less than 1,000 of them remaining in the world. In the 1800's, there were many of these giant whales left in the world. There were more than fifty thousand! They began to become endangered because whalers captured and killed them to use their blubber for oil. This whale tends to stay close to the surface of the ocean and made it very easy for the whalers to catch. This is how this whale got its name "right whale" because they were the right whales to catch and so easy to find. In 1935, these whales were put on the endangered species list and became protected. Unfortunately they are still killed by the propeller's of ships because of their surfacing habits.
